If your creativity or special requirements exceed the selection to be found on their well-stocked shelves, custom orders can be arranged - from the smallest fired item to the largest architectural piece to be collected or shipped to any destination at special rates.
From small beginnings founded by Goldie Spieler in the mid-70s, Earthworks Pottery has mastered the ability to marry form with function in colourful but elegant expression. The studio and pottery, located on a breezy hillside (a fabulous photo-op) boasts beautiful mosaic-tiled walls done by Earthworks themselves, a demonstration perhaps of the endless creativity to be found within. Its an unpretentious workshop where red clay dust lines the floors and wide open windows look out onto the St. George valley. Inside a friendly group of diligent potters practice this ancient art Bajan-style, producing rustic-chic ceramic wares, in dozens of colourful patterns. They are unique, food-safe, dishwasher and microwave safe, customizable, and of the highest quality. So high in fact that in 2010 the Pottery received a Fodor's gold star.
Complete sets of dinnerware, and serving dishes, can be purchased or ordered in square, round, rectangular, or oval settings. Mix and match for an eclectic table that's its own conversation-starter. At Earthworks you can find mugs, jugs, teapots, decanters, sushi plates, bread 'baskets', pizza platters, bowls in a range of sizes, soap dishes, vases, lamp-stands, candle shades, plant pots, signs and nameplates, jewellery caddies, desktop accessories and other odds and ends.
Set in the heart of the Barbados away from the bustle of Bridgetown a few other local treasures can be found at the Earthworks complex. On the Wall Art Gallery displays the carefully selected work of some of Barbados' most talented artists and craftspeople. Tree Top Café complements the Gallery and serves a full range of salads, sandwiches, quiches, and more on a shaded verandah with a fabulous aerial view of the south of the island. Tulis Batik is local artist Henderson Reece's studio. Watch his process of creation and choose from the gorgeous finished pieces depicting local scenes.
